Our Mission
Key Objectives

On June 1st, 2025, we launched Films for a Better Society 2.0, a 12-month European Solidarity Corps project that used documentary filmmaking to empower young people and bring local stories to a wider audience.

Building on the first edition of the project, this new chapter focused on rural youth, digital storytelling, and community engagement. Five young participants collected stories, developed their filmmaking skills, and worked together to create a 40-minute documentary about real social issues affecting local communities.

The project was not only about producing a film. It created a space where young people learned to observe more carefully, ask better questions, listen to people’s experiences, and transform local realities into meaningful visual stories.

ORPHANS OF DISTANCE

Orphans of Distance (A távolság árvái) is a 40-minute documentary created within the Films for a Better Society 2.0 project. The film looks at the slow disappearance of rural heritage: old houses, carved gates, local symbols, community stories, and ways of life that once defined villages but are now fading as communities grow older, young people leave, and traditional spaces lose their original meaning.

Through a sensitive documentary approach, the film shows that heritage is not only found in monuments or history books. It lives in everyday places, in family memories, in village landscapes, in schools, churches, and in the people who still remember. Orphans of Distance invites viewers to reflect on what happens when a community becomes distant from its own past — and why preserving local memory is essential for keeping rural identity alive.

ENVIRONMENTAL

PROTECTION

As part of the project, we organised a local water pollution check with the involvement of a nearby school. Together with 20 young participants, we visited three local streams to observe their condition, carry out basic measurements, analyse what we found, and better understand how human activity affects natural water sources.

The results did not show significant pollution, which was encouraging, but the streams were not untouched either. After the observation and testing process, participants collected waste from the area and helped raise awareness about the importance of protecting rivers, streams, and the natural spaces around them. The activity showed that environmental protection starts with attention, responsibility, and small but concrete local actions.

Key Objectives

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

The project encouraged young people to become more aware of the environment around them and to understand that local responsibility begins with observation, care, and action. It promoted a more conscious attitude toward nature, public spaces, and the everyday places that shape community life.

FILM AS A TOOL FOR RURAL STORYTELLING

Through documentary filmmaking, the project explored the realities of rural communities and the slow disappearance of local heritage. It used film to preserve memories, make hidden stories visible, and reflect on how identity, tradition, and belonging can survive in changing village environments.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The project created opportunities for young people, local schools, communities, and audiences to connect through shared stories and meaningful conversations. It strengthened participation by showing that young people can do more than observe social issues — they can document them, question them, and bring them into public dialogue.

Solidarity

Solidarity is not only a value we speak about. It becomes real when people choose to care, to listen, and to act. Films for a Better Society 2.0 was built on this idea: that young people can create change when they are given the space, trust, and tools to respond to the world around them.

The project showed that change does not always begin with large institutions or perfect solutions. Sometimes it begins with a camera, a question, a local story, or a small action taken together. Through this process, participants learned that their voices matter — and that responsibility for the future starts with the courage to notice what should not be ignored.
